Here are the spelling and vocabulary words for the week. The words will come home on Friday, January 29th and we will take the test on Thursday February 4th. Study hard and good luck!
SPELLING WORDS - Unit 22

VOCABULARY - Geometry Vocabulary
parallel lines - lines that will never cross
intersecting lines - lines that meet or cross at a common point
line of symmetry - a line on which a figure can be folded so that its two halves match exactly
perpendicular lines - lines that intersect and create a right angle

Our class Valentines Party will be on Friday, February 12th from 10:20 - 11:20. We are in need of volunteers to plan and carry out 2 games and a craft for our party! Plesae call or email Heather Jensen if you are interested or able to help at our party. We have had great support from parents this far and I want to give everyone an opportunity if you have not been into help at a party to do so. The internet is a great place to find ideas for games or crafts and we have some money available from our donations to help with the costs. This will be the last party the PTA sponsors this for the year. Thanks for your support!
Have your child decorate and bring a valentines box to class on the day of our party.

We are heading into our 3rd annual reading compeitition, "The Ultimate Book Battle" with Butterfield Canyon Elementary and this year Silver Crest Elementary is joining the competition. The school with the most minutes read will receive a trophy and a special school assembly!
The competition is going to be fierce and we want to keep the trophy at Foothills, so please encourage your student to READ, READ, READ as much as possible in the two weeks of competition. The class that reads the most will receive a game and ice cream party!
Please record the number of minutes your child reads each night independently at home on the "Ultimate Book Battle Calendar" and return it by the date due with a parent signature so the minutes will be counted toward our school. In order to ensure a fair and competitive atmosphere, only minutes recorded on the "Ultimate Book Battle Calendar" will be counted.
Grab a book and let the reading begin!

SPELLING WORDS - Unit 21
gather, winter, master, tractor, shower, major, danger, enter, whether, water, thunder, eager, bitter, silver, minor, neither, wonder, either rather, together.
VOCABULARY -
ploygon - a closed 2 dimensioanl figure formed by line segments
line segment - a staight path that has two endpoints
endpoint - a point at either end of a line segment
congruent - figures that have the same size and same shape
similar - fugures that have the same shape but not the same size

REMINDER:
If you child is doing the "Student Treasures" Book, it is due while we are off-track and must be brought into the Office by March 1st or brought back to class before going off-track!!!
We are going to have a Valentine's Day party! It will be February 12th, the student will make boxes at home. Watch for more information to be posted as it gets closer!
