Winter Recess - No School

Last day of school will be Wednesday December 23rd, we will be getting out at 1:25, it will be Friday's early schedule. We will return to school on Monday, January 4, 2010! Hope you all have a wonderful and safe Winter Recess!

Food Drive

It is time again for the Foothills Annual Food Drive.

The halls are filling up with generous donotions, but we would like to encourage everyone to participate.  The student council set a goal of 10,000 food items and we would like to meet and exceed that goal.   

Please bring a canned or non-parishable food item to school to donate to our food drive!

Brrrr it's cold - Inclement Weather Guidelines

PLEASE DRESS YOUR STUDENTS FOR THE WEATHER!

It has been deteremined by the School Community Council that students will be brought in the building under the following weather conditions:

* Temperature is below 20 degrees
* Wind chill factor causes extreme low temperature
* Air quality is poor
* Rain
* Other hazardous conditions such as high winds, lightening or other   conditions deemed hazardous by the principal.

Recess will be cancelled in case of inclement weather conditions or extreme cold.

Great Brain Independent Study Project

Foothills Elementary announced the implementation of the Great Brain Independent Study Project for students.  Students become Great Brains by choosing a topic to research in-depth, using a variety of sources and keeping careful records.  The child then plans and makes a presentation before an audience.

Great Brain is more intensive than regularly assigned schoolwork and may be on any subject that a student finds interesting regardless of grade core curriculum.  A strict set of guidelines and steps must be followed to accomplish the project.  The informatin is available through the office or through Mrs. Brown.  These projects are completed at home and then a presentation is scheduled with Mrs. Brown to share the information with classmates. 

This is a great way to keep your brains working while off during the winter break!   

Spelling and Vocabulary for Dec. 7th to Dec.10th

VOCABULARY WORDS- Soil:
bedrock - solid rock that lies underneath the subsoil that has not yet been broken down
subsoil - the layer below the topsoil
topsoil - the top layer of soil that contains living organisms and nonliving things
soil profile - a side view "slice" of the different layers
Earth organisms - living plant or animal life

Mark your calendars, we go off track on Friday, November 13th! Class will be back on Track beginning Monday, December 7th! Have a wonderful and safe time off track!
